SQL Server Database Developer / Administrator
DEFINITION: Administer databases, develop and implement logical and physical database designs. Working knowledge of Great Plains and Microsoft CRM is preferable.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned:
- Applications programming work covering the complete software development lifecycle, development and implementation of logical and physical database designs as well as administration of those databases.
- Systems application design, development, implementation and maintenance; software configuration and operation.
- Identify and evaluate system, subsystem, and program and network requirements so that systems development meets user and project needs by analyzing information requirements, determining availability of existing hardware and software or need for new hardware and software purchasing.
- Maintain and improve systems management to achieve performance optimization, preventive maintenance and problem isolation / resolution by planning and analysis, design, development and enhancement.
- Monitor, maintain and improve data consistency and integrity.
- Approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems, such as the installation of new databases.
- Under limited supervision, develop, plan, implement, and maintain web based applications, web services using Microsoft products.
- Test programs or databases, correct errors and make necessary modifications.
- Develop data model describing data elements and how they are used.
- Develop methods for integrating different products so they work properly together, such as customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.
- Develop, establish and monitor change, recovery, and fallback processes.
- Analyze user’s needs and problems.
- Define and document solutions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES required in the following areas:
- Administering database systems.
- Disaster Recovery testing.
- Implementing logical and physical database designs.
- Database programming (i.e. stored procedures).
The successful candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of systems analysis, design, programming, and implementation. The candidate must understand the interrelationships between computer hardware, operating systems, software, and communications systems. The candidate must have technical expertise in development of web based applications, web services, and reports. The candidate must have proven expertise in database design (ability to develop data items and their relationships, construct logical and physical data models), in data warehouse design and management (especially data warehouse use with Sharepoint). Some lifting is required.
This position requires
- The ability to apply these principles to solve problems facing various levels of management, customers, project managers and coordinators; and,
- Technical knowledge concerning program design, logical definitions coding, file structures, software, hardware, cost estimates, physical database design, and data integrity.
EDUCATION: Degree in computer programming or related field. Microsoft certifications preferred. 2-5 years prior experience preferred. Ideas offers a competitive wage and benefit package including health and dental insurance, PTO and 401K.
